In a team consisting of ten colleagues you will be responsible for all order support and processing for Europe. You will be contribute to the success of one of the main players in their field. Count on a position in an challenging, always demanding environment where you will never be bored! Be aware that this is not a position in a call center or product inquiry desk and there are no dealings with huge amount of retail orders. Furthermore, the department is not strongly automated or standardized, so creativity is appreciated. The position offers many challenges and opportunities!

• Fluent in English and/or any other European language.
• At least 3 years experience in Customer Service environment with complex products and processes.
• Experience with order handling, data entry and logistics

What will be the core responsibilities of this job?
As Head of Programmes, Policy & Research you will be responsible for:

• Facilitating, managing and coaching the work of the experts in Project Coordination, R&D, IPR and Knowledge Management, by supporting their roles and ensuring that their results are properly integrated into other areas of the business.
• Creating proposals under European funding frameworks to run projects that push the boundaries on multilingualism, interoperability, re-use of digital objects and access to cultural heritage across borders.
• Manage the programme of projects and subcontracts that fund Europeana ensuring that duties are understood and deadlines are met within the organisation.
• Hosting project meetings and making sure that the Europeana Professional website meets user knowledge and communication requirements.
• Working with policy-makers, at national and EU levels, on the environmental changes needed to create easy and open access to our cultural and scientific heritage.
• Facilitating the work of Europeana’s Aggregation and Distribution/Engagement teams and contributing partners by driving forward solutions in data modeling, multilingualism, rights etc.

What set of skills and knowledge should you bring?

• Strong, coaching-based management skills
• Good lateral thinker
• Rigorous organisational and process capability
• Broad knowledge of the cultural and scientific heritage landscape
• Ability to motivate people and to communicate and engage with different stakeholders
• Fluency in English, both oral and written

What are the benefits?
Depending on your experience and skills, your monthly gross salary will be between EURO 3,228 - 5,048 (scale 11-12), in line with the Collective Labour agreement for Research Institutes. Furthermore you will have: 42 days holiday per year, a holiday allowance (around 8%) and an annual bonus (around 8%).
It’s also important to know that we are based in the National Library of the Netherlands in The Hague, close to Central Station.

• An excellent command of English. Most MA programs at Leiden University are taught in English, and English may be used in BA teaching as well.

OBJECTIVE OF THE POST
The overall objective of the post is to provide medical and public health leadership in one portfolio of countries, to ensure MSF-OCA interventions effectively address the health needs of the populations we serve. This requires a close working relationship with the Operations Manager in order to develop, lead and ensure implementation of new strategies and interventions. The HA has a functional line directly to the medical coordinator for each country in the field. The Health Advisor works with support from a second Health Advisor in each portfolio.
KEY TASKS
The Health Advisor is responsible for leading the implementation, and assuring the quality of, health and medical programmes in his/her portfolio. This includes:

• Providing medical leadership to countries in his/her operational portfolio ( 3-5 countries), following the direction provided by the MSF-OCA Strategic Plan 2011-2014, annual plans and current MSF medical policies;
• Providing expert advice and support to the portfolio (Operations Manager, medical co-ordinators and country managers) in developing medical and health policies for his/her countries and translating them into effective operational strategies, including related advocacy and Access Campaign issues;
• Visiting each country/project to review programme direction, quality, and develop strategies, at least once a year;
• Coordinating the support from internal/external specialist advisors for specific countries;
• Reviewing/approving key HR appointments (Medco, Project Coordinators etc) for field projects, and (de)briefing of field staff;
• Directing and supporting medical co-ordinators and country managers in implementation of the country planning cycle: country policy, annual planning, and project proposals; 
• Stimulating awareness of emerging health problems in populations in countries and in ensuring an appropriate response;
• Ensuring that MSF-OCA field practice meets internationally agreed medical ethics, standards and laws (quality of medicines, treatment protocols, transport of biological and pharmaceutical materials), given contextual constraints;
• Monitoring the quality, outcomes and achievements of programmes.

In addition, the Health Advisor will contribute as requested by the Coordinator of Health Advisors to:

• The development and implementation of new health policies, operational strategies and protocols for MSF-OCA, including the development of pilot initiatives in the field;
• The development and implementation of operational research in MSF-OCA;
• Publication of relevant experience/research in medical and general media;
• Training and representation tasks as delegated by the Coordinator of Health Advisors.

Requirements

PROFILE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Required:

• Medical doctor, with broad knowledge and experience in the field of international Public Health and up to date clinical skills in tropical medicine;
• Relevant academic qualifications (minimum MD and Master of Public Health);
• Proven ability to provide strong leadership and vision in project/programme management;
• Proven strategic and analytical skills in medical programming;
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills (oral and written);
• Knowledge and experience in the humanitarian world; commitment and passion for the goals and work of MSF;

The department is responsible for providing strategic direction and integrated advice on medical and public health issues to the field and headquarters (operational managers). The PHD plays a key role in developing and maintaining the medical humanitarian identity and image of MSF-OCA, and in continuing to develop and improve intervention strategies so as to be relevant and effective. The Health Advisor plays a critical role in this, translating medical and public health strategies into field operations. The Hague Academy of International Law, founded in 1923, is a high level, post-academic institution for the study and dissemination of public and private international law. The Academy's well-known Summer Programme and its Centre for Studies and Research are held in the Peace Palace in The Hague (Netherlands) during the months of July, August and September.

The Academy seeks to appoint a Publications Manager with copy-preparing/proof-reading responsibilities.
The appointee will take the position of the current Manager who retires on 30 June 2014.

Requirements and responsibilities

• Thorough knowledge of French so as to be able to correct at a high level manuscripts that are submitted in French, and active knowledge of English;
• Broad experience in professional publishing with strong preference for law;
• Training and experience in copy-preparing and supervision at all stages of production;

Job description

Clouds and water vapour are very important elements of the climate system. The development of diverse remote sensing instrumentation and measurement methods to retrieve a complete view of the profile of atmospheric properties has met with considerable success. The state of the art in ground-based remote sensing is, however, still limited in its ability to quantify (or even handle) the presence of drizzle, an important element of the process determining cloud lifetime and not well taken into account in climate models.
In this project we will develop a multi-sensor optimal estimation-based framework for estimating profiles of cloud optical and microphysical properties, including the quantification of drizzle. The method will be developed and tested using a combination of simulators and real cloud data from the CESAR/Cabauw multi-instrument measurement site. In addition, satellite data will be used in the evaluation of the cloud property output of the algorithm.

Requirements

Applicants must have a PhD in Physics, Applied Mathematics, Meteorology, or another appropriate field. Prior experience in the fields of atmospheric remote sensing and/or data assimilation is desirable. The candidate must be able to verbally communicate and write in English at an appropriate level.

The Institute for History is the home of a vibrant community of researchers and lecturers with outstanding track records and successful in attracting national and international research grants. Under the label ‘Global Questions, Local Sources’ scholars affiliated to the Institute combine a deep knowledge of global interactions and of specific localities, regions and states in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. They use comparative, connective and entangled approaches and resort to qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.

All researchers of the Institute for History are connected to one of the five research specializations: The Unification of the Mediterranean World (400 BC - 400 AD), Collective Identities and Transnational Networks in Medieval and Early Modern Europe, 1000-1800, Political Culture and National Identities, European Expansion and Globalization, and Migration and Global Interdependence.
From April 1, 2014, the Leiden University Institute for History will be appointing two (1.0 fte) PhDs for a four-year period:

Duties and responsibilities

• Writing a dissertation in Dutch or English within four years.
• Submitting  research results for publication to international peer-reviewed academic journals
• Presenting papers at conferences and workshops.
• Co-organizing conferences and workshops.
• Teaching undergraduate courses in the second and third year of appointment.
• Participating  in PhD training courses.

Requirements

• (Research) MA degree in History.
• Written and oral fluency in English.
• Demonstrable interest in the research program of the Institute for History; a PhD project should convincingly link up to (at least) one of the five research specializations.
• Willingness to work in an international academic community that aspires to the highest levels of scholarly excellence.
• A problem-focused approach to historical research, and demonstrable ability to apply theoretical and comparative frameworks.
• Ability to work both independently and as a member of one of the five research specializations.

Conditions of employment

The two PhD positions are full-time (1.0 fte) and for a period of four years (or 0.8 fte for a period of five years). Initially all employees will receive a one year contract. An extension of three years is possible having received positive evaluations of capabilities and achievements.
Remuneration for a full-time working week will be € 2,083,- gross per calendar month in the first year, increasing to € 2,664- gross per calendar month in the fourth year. An appointment with Leiden University includes a pension build-up and facilitates other benefits such as an annual holiday premium of 8% and an end-of-year premium of 8.3%.
