Job description

The
purpose of the position is to lead the Ferrous & Non Ferrous Metal
Treatment research and development programmes in the Enschede Research
Centre and to coordinate the product group’s R & D activities
undertaken in operating companies. The position plays a key role in the
NPI process, working closely with marketing and operations personnel to
support the successful operation of the NPI process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead
    the team of Project Managers to ensure that R & D projects are
    conducted in accordance with the NPI process and to deliver a successful
    outcome on-time and within the budget allocated to the project.
  • Coordinate
    the Ferrous & Non Ferrous Metal treatment R & D activities
    globally to ensure that work is undertaken in the most appropriate
    location; that best-practices are transferred and that resources are
    most effectively utilised on key priorities.
  • Define and develop
    the technical competences required in the Ferrous and Non Ferrous R
    & D team, both in the EN centre and in the country Centres of
    Excellence, to ensure that Foundry is equipped with the necessary
    competences to deliver successful R & D.
  • Develop and
    maintain relationships with external technology organisations which can
    contribute to the Foundry R & D programme and which can support the
    development of the required competences.
  • Participate in the technology transfer, industrialisation and product launch teams and processes.
  • Lead
    the team to ensure that the highest standards of R & D capability
    are developed including HSE, project management disciplines, NPI process
    skills and performance management tools.
  • Act as a focal point
    for the exchange of product group technology around the group in order
    to drive the sharing of best practices.
  • Interaction with
    customers through International Marketing Function to gain a deep
    understanding of their needs, which is needed to support development of
    breakthrough new products.
  • Work with the IMM's and IPM's to
    support the establishment of product line strategies, and associated
    product & technology roadmaps.
  • Collaborate with the Process
    & Engineering team to support the development of process technology
    appropriate for new product manufacturing.
  • Support and provide necessary Metallurgical advice to the other product group R&D areas

Requirements

  • Postgraduate degree (MSc. Minimum) in or other relevant discipline (Materials Science).
  • Minimal 5 years experience in Aluminium Foundry. Other foundry segment experience is a plus.
  • Experience managing International R&D teams.
  • Good practical, interpersonal and communication skills. Fluency in English.
  • HSE Leadership & Compliance.
  • Background in project management and establishing successful multi-disciplinary and multi-national research teams.
  • Combining academic research with industrial requirements.
  • Technology transfer from laboratory to production process
  • Participation in product launches.
  • The
    job holder must have the ability to work as a member of several
    cross-functional, cross-cultural and cross-geographical teams.

Vacancy: Publications Manager

The Hague Academy of International Law, founded in 1923, is a high level, post-academic institution for the study and dissemination of public and private international law. The Academy's well-known Summer Programme and its Centre for Studies and Research are held in the Peace Palace in The Hague (Netherlands) during the months of July, August and September.
The lectures, given either in French or in English, in the programme of the summer courses are published in the well-regarded Recueil des Cours/Collected Courses. Six to eight new volumes are published each year (approximately 3000-4000 pages) which also appear electronically. In addition, some of these courses are published as pocketbooks (approximately 1800 pages) and e-books. The Academy also produces reports and collections of papers prepared by the Directors of Research and participants in its Centre (approximately 1000 pages). Finally, the Academy publishes on an occasional basis papers from colloquia that it sponsors on selected topics in the field of international law, catalogues and specific works.
The Academy, as publisher, prepares and prints all of its publications under its own responsibility. The international distribution of the volumes in printed and electronic format is left in the hands of a commercial company, Martinus Nijhoff Publishers, an imprint of Brill.

Position
The Academy seeks to appoint a Publications Manager with copy-preparing/proof-reading responsibilities.
The appointee will take the position of the current Manager who retires on 30 June 2014.

Requirements and responsibilities
  • Thorough knowledge of French so as to be able to correct at a high level manuscripts that are submitted in French, and active knowledge of English;
  • Broad experience in professional publishing with strong preference for law;
  • Training and experience in copy-preparing and supervision at all stages of production;
  • Capability of working in goals-oriented environment to plan for and achieve enhanced production cost and efficiencies;
  • Ability to:
    • direct an existing team of French and English language copy preparers/proof-readers;
    • evaluate and retain additions/replacements to the team; supervise final make-up of all the works;
    • propose lay-out for specific publications;
    • assume overall responsibility for the entire production process of all Academy publications, including liaison with typesetters and printers and a close collaboration with the authors; and
    • check all PDFs and sign the approval for the press run.

Role and Location
The Publications Manager will work under the guidance of the Joint Committee on Publications of the Academy and will co-ordinate on a regular basis with the Secretary General and the Treasurer of the Academy.
The Publications Manager need not be resident in The Hague provided that he or she can demonstrate the capacity to manage from his or her place of residence the responsibilities of the position including co-ordination with the Academy.
Contractual Arrangements
The Publications Manager will be engaged under a services contract with the Hague Academy that will be governed by Dutch law.
Competitive fees based on training and experience will be paid both for the copy-preparing and proof-reading and for the overall management.
