VACANCY / vacature : University Lecturer Spanish culture and literature (1.0 fte) (Groningen, The Netherlands)

The degree programme in European Languages and Cultures (ETC) of the University of Groningen’s Faculty of Arts is seeking a university lecturer (UD) in Spanish culture and literature in a European comparative perspective, for the Culture and Literature profile of the degree programme. The University Lecturer in Spanish should focus in particular on modern cultural and literary studies but must also have knowledge of earlier periods. We are looking for an enthusiastic and versatile colleague who has the experience to contribute to the teaching and research programme in the field of Spanish cultural and literary studies. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the degree programme in ETC, the UD must be able to place Spanish literature and culture into a broader European historical, socio-academic and social context. He or she must also be able to contribute to the Spanish language proficiency programme and to collaboration with the Language and Society and the Politics and Society profiles of the degree programme, as well as to collaboration outside the degree programme.

The UD should be capable of attracting students to the degree programme in European Languages and Cultures as a result of inspiring teaching methods.

The research will form part of the ICOG research institute.

Specific duties:
- teaching in the field of European literary and cultural studies, in particular Spanish literary and cultural studies in a comparative perspective, within the bachelor’s degree programme in ETC and the master’s degree programme in Literature and Culture
- teaching Spanish language proficiency course units
- teaching in the minors Europe: Culture and Literature, Mexican and Latin American Studies, and Literary Culture in Premodern Europe
- conducting high-quality academic research in the aforementioned fields
- external grant acquisition
- supervising bachelor’s and master’s theses in the above-mentioned fields
- performing administrative and organizational duties.

Functie-eisen

In addition to a number of basic requirements set by the University of Groningen, such as excellent social and communication skills, presentation skills, coaching skills and a results oriented attitude, we are looking for a candidate who has a PhD in the field of Spanish literary and cultural studies, excellent (near-native) proficiency in the Spanish language, and preferably also in English, and,

in the area of teaching:
- has at least three years of teaching experience in the field of Spanish literary and cultural studies at various levels
- has experience in teaching Spanish language proficiency at all levels of the CEFR
- has gained the University Teaching Qualification (BKO) or is prepared to do so within a year
- is an excellent teacher, as demonstrated by positive teaching evaluations
- is demonstrably able to make concrete contributions to the development of course units, partly by actively linking teaching to research.

Iin the area of research:
- has authored at least two, preferably international, publications every year
- is able to set up his or her own research line and publish within it, dovetailing with the profile of the research institute
- has international experience and an international network
- is prepared to play an active role in supervising PhD research.

In the area of management and organization:
- has a good command of Dutch or is willing to learn the language within two years
- is able to make a constructive contribution to interdisciplinary collaboration and a friendly atmosphere within the department
- has demonstrable administrative and organization skills.

Arbeidsvoorwaarden

The University of Groningen is offering a salary based on qualifications and experience of between € 3,324 (scale 11) and € 5,171 (scale 12 Dutch Universities) gross per month for a fulltime position. The appointment is for two years, after which a Results and Development interview will be held to examine whether the performance justifies conversion of the temporary appointment into a permanent one.

Date of entry into employment: 1 September 2015, or earlier if possible.

The department of European Languages and Cultures of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Groningen is seeking a University Lecturer in Modern English Literature and Culture from a European comparative perspective. The university lecturer focuses particularly on English culture and literature within a historical, social scientific and societal framework. We are looking for an enthusiastic and versatile colleague who is able to contribute to our teaching and research programme in the field of modern English literature and culture based on his/her expertise and skills. In addition, he/she can contribute to teaching in English language proficiency and is open to working across disciplines within the Faculty of Arts and beyond.

Job Erasmus University Rotterdam - (Senior) Lecturer Mathematics and Computational Science


Job description

The primary tasks of the (Senior) Lecturer are to co-develop, carry out and coordinate academic courses in the fields of Mathematics and Computational Science for the curriculum of Erasmus University College. Secondarily the (Senior) Lecturer will act as a tutor in various courses in the curriculum that are based on the didactic format of problem-based learning, may be called upon to assist in the guidance of small groups for lab skills and will supervise Capstone projects of students.

Requirements

  • You hold a PhD in a relevant field of research (Mathematics, Informatics or Physics);
  • You have relevant teaching experience;
  • You have excellent communication skills and you are highly proficient in the English language (at least C1 level in the CEFR, C2 level is preferred);

Conditions of employment

The vacant position is fulltime (1.0 fte). The new (Senior) Lecturer is invited to join Erasmus University College as soon as possible and preferably no later than 1 July 2015. Contracts will initially be running for a period of one year, with a possible extension.
The teaching load of the (Senior) Lecturer will be 100%. After one year in position and provided that prerequisites (PhD, strong track record and/or clear potential as a researcher) are met, the (Senior) Lecturer may apply within EUC for a research voucher. When granted, the research voucher will allow the (Senior) Lecturer to free up to 20% of their workload for a period of up to two years to focus on research activities. Continuation of such a research voucher is dependent on the ability of the (Senior) Lecturer to acquire sufficient external funding.
The conditions of employment comply with the ‘CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten/Collective Agreement Netherlands Universities (CAO NU)’. Salary is subject to know-how and experience and will be within salary scale 10 (for a Lecturer, starting at 2,476 Euro gross salary per month) or salary scale 11 (for a Senior Lecturer, starting at 3,324 Euro gross salary per month). Starting salaries tend to be near the lower end of the scale.
Erasmus University has attractive employment conditions, which include a holiday allowance of 8.0%, an end-of-year bonus of 8.3% and up to 41 annual vacation days.

  • Native proficiency in Turkish. Proficiency in Ottoman Turkish may be an advantage.
  • Commitment to and expertise in high-quality, multi-media, multi-mode teaching practice. Work experience at institutions located outside Turkey is an advantage.
  • While the position has no research component, a PhD degree in a relevant field may be an advantage.
  • While primary duties will lie in language acquisition classes, the ability to teach content courses in Middle-Eastern Studies (culture, history, linguistics, modern society, etc) may be an advantage.
  • An excellent command of English. Most MA programs at Leiden University are taught in English, and English may be used in BA teaching as well. The BA in Russian Studies and the MA in Russian and Eurasian Studies target the study of the Russian Federation in its historical and contemporary context. Duties and Responsibilities

  • The lecturer will be expected to play an active role in the development and teaching of the programmes in Russian Studies (BA) and Russian and Eurasian Studies (MA).
  • His / her main responsibility will be to teach Russian domestic and foreign policies, with a focus on the post-communist era.
  • The candidate will also participate in the BA programme in International Studies.

Job description

You are responsible for the development and implementation of course material in the field of online marketing, as well as co-lecturing in general marketing courses. You will be delivering lectures and workshops to students and you will be coaching and supervising students in the ‘mADE Production House' (our in-house media production company), during internships and in graduation projects. You will also be participating in (research) projects, induced by the media industry.

Requirements

You hold a Master degree or PhD in a relevant field of knowledge, or a Bachelor degree with extensive industry experience and the willingness to get a Master degree. You are able to show us both your recent (international) experience in the entertainment industry and in the development of digital entertainment. You have obtained both teaching experience in higher professional education as experience with practical skill-based teaching. If needed you are willing to follow training in didactical skills. It goes without saying that you have excellent communication skills in English, both in speech and in writing.

Salary & Benefits

With a Masters degree or PhD, the salary for this position will be at level 11 of the CAO-HBO (Collective Labour Agreement), earning a monthly maximum of € 4.203,83 gross (full-time). You will get a fixed annual benefit of 8,3%. Job description

The position requires teaching at both bachelor and master level, but with an emphasis on the former. Candidates must be able to contribute to basic introductory courses in areas such as IR theory, political science, international organization, European integration, and social science research methodologies; as well as to support staff members in core modules and research seminars. The supervision of students will play an important part in the position.

Requirements

The candidate will work in an interdisciplinary department, mainly for the benefit of activities in the more general area of International Relations. The candidate ideally comes from an interdisciplinary background of which International Relations and social sciences are component parts. The candidate's qualities are demonstrated by:

- a completed Bachelor and Master
- preferable experience in (academic) teaching, at various levels and in various formats
- demonstrable oral and written skills in Dutch and English
- excellent social and communicative skills and immunity to stress.

Conditions of employment

The University of Groningen offers a salary dependent on qualifications and work experience starting from a minimum of € 2,379 gross per month to a maximum of € 3,755,- gross per month (salary scale 10) for a full-time position, excluding 8% holiday pay and 8,3% end-of-year gratification and participation in a pension scheme for employees. Faculty of Arts
The Department of International Relations and International Organization (IRIO) at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Groningen offers a temporary position for Lecturer International Relations (0,6 fte, 1 year).

The Department of IRIO is committed to top tier research combined with high quality education. This commitment to excellence is apparent at both the undergraduate, graduate and PhD levels. IRIO, with over 30 staff members, provides interdisciplinary and international Bachelor and Master degree programmes. Students and staff are drawn to studying international relations and the role of international organization in an integrated manner from historical, political, economic and legal angles. The Department provides an international working environment for an increasing number of Dutch and non-Dutch students and research staff. Teaching is organized in cooperation with staff members from the Department of History, and the faculties of Law and Economics. The Bachelor and Master degree programmes are taught in Dutch and English. There are currently about 1,000 students registered for IRIO programmes. Additionally, the Department is responsible for the Erasmus Mundus 2-year Master degree programme in Humanitarian Action, coordinated by the Network on Humanitarian Action (NOHA).
