Job description
The position requires teaching at both bachelor and master
level, but with an emphasis on the former. Candidates must be able to
contribute to basic introductory courses in areas such as IR theory,
political science, international organization, European integration, and
social science research methodologies; as well as to support staff
members in core modules and research seminars. The supervision of
students will play an important part in the position.
Requirements
The candidate will work in an interdisciplinary department,
mainly for the benefit of activities in the more general area of
International Relations. The candidate ideally comes from an
interdisciplinary background of which International Relations and social
sciences are component parts. The candidate's qualities are
demonstrated by:
- a completed Bachelor and Master
- preferable experience in (academic) teaching, at various levels and in various formats
- demonstrable oral and written skills in Dutch and English
- excellent social and communicative skills and immunity to stress.

Conditions of employment
The University of Groningen offers a salary dependent on
qualifications and work experience starting from a minimum of € 2,379
gross per month to a maximum of € 3,755,- gross per month (salary scale
10) for a full-time position, excluding 8% holiday pay and 8,3%
end-of-year gratification and participation in a pension scheme for
employees. It's a temporary position for one year.
The starting date for this appointment is 1 September 2012.

The Department of International Relations and International
Organization (IRIO) at the Faculty of Arts of the University of
Groningen offers a temporary position for Lecturer International
Relations (0,6 fte, 1 year).
The Department of IRIO is committed to top tier research combined with high quality education. This commitment to excellence is apparent at both the undergraduate, graduate and PhD levels. IRIO, with over 30 staff members, provides interdisciplinary and international Bachelor and Master degree programmes. Students and staff are drawn to studying international relations and the role of international organization in an integrated manner from historical, political, economic and legal angles. The Department provides an international working environment for an increasing number of Dutch and non-Dutch students and research staff. Teaching is organized in cooperation with staff members from the Department of History, and the faculties of Law and Economics. The Bachelor and Master degree programmes are taught in Dutch and English. There are currently about 1,000 students registered for IRIO programmes. Additionally, the Department is responsible for the Erasmus Mundus 2-year Master degree programme in Humanitarian Action, coordinated by the Network on Humanitarian Action (NOHA). Research in the Department of IRIO is organized around four specializations, respectively in: International Security; International Political Economy; European Integration; and Global Governance.
