Instrument scientist (f/m)

Within the climate and air quality program of SRON, you will work on the development, manufacturing and testing of immersed diffraction gratings for several space missions. These optical components are key technology enabling a next generation of spaceborne spectrometers in the short wave infrared wavelength range for the detection of greenhouse gases and pollutants. These instruments are being developed for the European Space Agency by consortia of European industries and research institutes.
The candidate will perform the following tasks:
  • Act as system engineer in flight hardware delivery projects;
  • Act as assembly, integration and verification manager in flight hardware delivery projects;
  • Analyze optical performance test results;
  • Prepare documentation for reviews according to ECSS standard;
  • Manage supplier contacts.

Functie-eisen

  • At least master of science level, a Ph.D. degree in applied Physics is preferred;
  • Experience in research and development;
  • Experience in microfabrication;
  • Experience in design or use of optical systems;
  • Experience with or interest in project management;
  • Experience with working in an industrial environment;
  • Go-getter, self-starter, communicator.
We also encourage excellent MSc candidates who do not have obtained a Ph.D to apply.

Arbeidsvoorwaarden

Employment of this full-time position at SRON-Utrecht is by NWO (The Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research) and will be for a period of 2 years with possible extension. The salary will be in accordance with the salary scales of NWO with a maximum of € 5204,- gross per month on a full-time basis (highly depending on education and experience).
NWO has good secondary employment conditions such as:
  • An end of year bonus of 8,33% of the gross yearly salary;
  • 42 days of vacation leave a year on full-time basis;
