Job description

You will lead and work within the division of Diagnostic Imaging. The division performs diagnostics on patients of the departments of 'Clinical Sciences of Companion Animals' and 'Equine Sciences', on external clients from practitioners and on experimental animals. The division currently comprises 8 staff members and 11 technical support. The division has state-of-the-art facilities. The services of the division cover the entire broadness of the field.
The full professor is responsible for the overall quality of the work and the associated research and teaching programmes in both areas regardless of her or his primary expertise

Your primary tasks are:
  • organizing and directing the diagnostic services in close collaboration with the clinical directors;
  • innovating diagnostic imaging in veterinary practice in close collaboration with the medical imaging department of the University Medical Centre Utrecht (UMCU);
  • coordinating and co-developing the innovation and educational activities of the division;
  • directing the research programme of the division in the context of the faculty-wide programme;
  • distributing scientific results via publications in high-ranking scientific journals and to other stakeholders;
  • acquiring extramural research funds;
  • contributing to the faculty organization and the well-being of the scientific community  by participation in management and faculty committees.

Requirements

We are searching for a colleague who:
  • has a DVM and PhD degree and has broad experience with veterinary diagnostic imaging in an academic clinical setting, and is a diplomate of the European or American College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging;
  • is internationally recognized as an outstanding expert in the field of diagnostic imaging;
  • has a clear vision on the development of the field of diagnostic imaging;
  • has excellent teaching skills and is familiar with veterinary curricula;
  • has an excellent track record of publishing in high-ranking international scientific (bio)medical and veterinary journals on a regular basis and is regularly invited for keynote lectures at international conferences;
  • has a proven track record in acquisition of funds;
  • has a ‘senior-level academic teaching and/or research qualification’ or equivalent;
  • has excellent communication and proven management skills and inspires co-workers to achieve excellence;
  • is able to speak the English language fluently and is willing to learn and speak the Dutch language; 

Conditions of employment

We offer a full-time permanent position.

The gross salary varies, depending on previous qualifications and experience, and will amount between € 4.904,- and € 7.142,- gross per month (full time appointment in scale H2 of the Collective Labour Agreement of the Dutch Universities).
Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8 % and a year-end bonus of 8.3 % per year. In addition, there are outstanding secondary benefits such as a minimum of 29 days holiday per year, study facilities, and a pension plan. More information on our terms of employment.

Utrecht University’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (UUFVM) is the only Veterinary School in the Netherlands and belongs to the international top in education, research and veterinary medical patient care. UUFVM is one of the few European veterinary schools accredited by the American and Canadian Veterinary Medical Associations and the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education.
