VACANCY- PhD Position in Migration and Entrepreneurship - TRANSMIC ITN Marie Curie project

Job description

In the framework of the TRANSMIC project, the Maastricht Graduate School of Governance (Maastricht University) and UNU-MERIT is recruiting a PhD researcher for a period of three years. You will work on a research project concerning Entrepreneurship and Migration. This project will explore the linkages between migration and entrepreneurism either in the immigrant destination country or in the origin country upon return. Supervisors for this project includeProf. Dr. Wim Naudé and Dr. Melissa Siegel. The PhD candidate will be enrolled in the PhD program in Economics and Governance The successful candidate will also participate in the research training sessions in the framework of the TRANSMIC ITN Marie Curie project.


A master’s degree in economics, development studies, sociology or a related social science.
Proven track record working in the area of migration.
Field experience is an asset.
Strong qualitative and quantitative skills are an asset.
You should have an excellent command of English (Academic IELTS score of 7.5 or higher; or TOEFL Internet-based test score of 113 or higher).
Strong analytical capacity.
Good organisational skills.
Affinity with work in an interdisciplinary and highly international environment.
Willingness and proven ability to work in a team.
In light of the mobility requirements set by the European Commission for this project, you must NOT have lived in the Netherlands for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to taking up the position.
