Vacancy in The Netherlands: Postdoctoral Researcher for Early Greek lyric poetry


Job description

You will be appointed as a postdoctoral researcher at the department of Greek and Latin Language and Culture, where your main responsibility will be to assist Prof. A. Lardinois in developing the research project ‘Accounting for Variations in the Textual Transmission of Greek Lyric Poetry.’ In addition, you will be asked to help coordinate the international Network for the Study of Archaic and Classical Greek Song and the interfaculty research theme ‘Europe’s Identities Past and Present’. You will be an active member of the Ancient World research group, a collaboration of classical philologists, historians and archaeologists. You will be expected to acquire externally funded research assignments and write project proposals. You will participate in research and teaching seminars.

Requirements

- you hold an Master’s degree in Classics and a doctoral degree in classical Greek literature;
- your research relates to Greek lyric poetry and/or its reception and transmission in the Hellenistic and Roman periods;
- you have a strong research ambition as evidenced by publications and initiatives;
- you have experience in organizing conferences and assisting in the coordination of research projects;
- you have experience in supervising students writing their Bachelor’s or Master’s theses, and preferably also in supervising PhD students writing their dissertations;
- you have a good command of written and spoken English.

Conditions of employment

- you will be appointed as a Postdoctoral Researcher Level 2 (UFO profile: Onderzoeker 2) or 3 (UFO profile: Onderzoeker 3) depending on qualifications and experience;
- the starting salary will depend on qualifications and experience; salary scale 11/12;
Contract type: Temporary, temporary contract until 1 January 2015;
