The Department
The Trade section is involved in the policy setting, planning, pricing and analysis of the various Trades. The Asia – Europe Trade is responsible for the management of the services which currently run between Europe and Asia. The main purpose of the department is to set up and manage services on these trade lanes in line with demand while setting commercial policy for the running of these services. At the same time the department is responsible for marketing, pricing and ensuring a healthy working relationship with the various front offices within MOL.
Job Duties
Product Management : Put forward ideas how to improve the product, by making suggestions to the SVP for introduction of ports, develop new business, and improve existing business. Make suggestions to SVP how to make existing processes more efficient and make more efficient use of resources. Get a proper grip on the supply / demand situation in the trade lane to assist with network modifications. Identification of weak legs in the product and opportunities to remove these.
Pricing Policy: Develop a long-term (6 months – 1 year) pricing policy for eastbound and FOB westbound. The long-term pricing policy is needed as a framework for the pricing teams in Rotterdam to set their short and middle term plans. Discuss the pricing policies with stakeholders in Hong Kong and Rotterdam. Create an environment in which the regional offices understand and sell the policy. The AVP works actively in setting the guidelines for the segmentation. Main criteria are setting the split between forwarder and BCO share. Regular Monitoring of net contribution to fixed costs to determine changes to the pricing policy and business segmentation. Drive Equipment match back & flow balancing.
Organisation: The AVP plays a key role in inter-departmental communication. At head office the AVP plays an important role to discuss both daily issues as well long-term strategies with the GMs/Managers of yield/logistics/sales/other trades. The AVP also needs to play a role in the decision making process for pricing of key accounts in each MSO. Responsibility for developing and using KPIs related to efficient management of the trade lane. Support Key Account Managers & or Procurement in engagement with key external contacts (customers / vendors) during contract negotiations or important meetings. Make a significant contribution to MOL Europe’s Yield Betterment efforts (cross departmental initiative).
People Management: Direct and steer the members of the Eastbound and Westbound Teams in Rotterdam (East-West) Trade management team. Provide a vision to the teams how to develop the business on both short term and long term. Motivate the people by encourage independent actions, but be available for suggestions and operate as a window for comments/questions from the teams. Facilitate staff engagement / development & succession planning.

Position Qualifications / Experience
8-10 years experience in a Trade or Route Management position with in addition 2 years in a people management position. Knowledge of the East West Trade would be an advantage but is not essential.
