Job description
We have one open PhD position on an exciting project in which new imaging techniques will be developed for measuring the response of tumour cells to treatment. Such imaging biomarkers are crucial in the phase of drug development, for assessing whether a potential new medicine is effective or not. The project is part of an international research programme, called QuIC-ConCePT, in which we collaborate with many partners from both academia and pharmaceutical industry. The European Journal of Cancer recently published a series of articles that introduce the QuICConCePT project: European Journal of Cancer, vol. 48 no. 4, March, 2012 (contact vacancies@bigr.nl if you do not have access). The candidate will be responsible for the development and validation of automated image analysis methods. The main focus will be on image registration, i.e. the alignment of images acquired at different time points (to monitor change) and/or with different imaging modalities (e.g. MRI, PET). Newly developed algorithms will be integrated in the open source Elastix software (elastix.isi.uu.nl).
Requirements
Candidates must have a Master’s degree in a technical field (Mathematics, Physics, (Biomedical) Engineering, Informatics etc.). Experience with programming is an advantage. You should be able to work in a multi-disciplinary team. Strong theoretical skills and affinity with experimental work are required.
