Job Description

This is a relatively mature theatre, providing the largest portion of Cisco Capital’s global business outside of the US and Canada. The Role

A qualified lawyer from a major European jurisdiction (or someone with equivalent experience) is sought to support our activities in the UK. Ireland and the North Region (Benelux, Nordics and Baltics). The role will be based in our offices in Amsterdam (although location at other major European hubs such as Stockholm, Brussels and Bedfont Lakes will be considered).
Key Deliverables:
• Contributes to the overall success of the business unit.
• Understands the business objectives and tailors legal advice to this.
• Is an integral member of the business unit’s leadership team, earning the tag “trusted business advisor”.
• Acts as primary negotiator for contractual negotiations with Cisco Capital’s customers and business partners, ensuring that contracts are closed in line with forecasts. Has good, pragmatic judgment, knowing when to push and when to hold back in order to keep the business revenue moving while mitigating risk to Cisco Capital and Cisco ..
• Gives reliable, timely legal advice to sales and other functions.
• Participates in other projects as a legal subject matter expert.
• Listens, empathizes and handles needs, objections, issues and concerns over contracts raised by Capital customers and their legal teams.
• Understands and works according to the commercial pressures of a sales business.
• Is prepared when needed to give advice that is urgent at speed. Is able to work and advise in ambiguous and fast-paced situations.
• Helps embed Cisco legal policy within the business unit in order to minimize concerns. Educates and coaches the business unit in order to transfer key legal knowledge and approach to the sales force.
• Acts as a problem solver rather than an issue spotter, focusing on how to get things done rather than how not to. Brings the attitude of an enabler rather than a block to business.
• Overall the formal and informal feedback from the business and customers is positive.

Desired Skills & Experience

Applicants should have at least 8 years’ broad finance experience (preferably including leasing) obtained at a top practice, bank or multinational corporate. Previous experience of in-house work is desirable but not essential.

This role is wide ranging with a lot of responsibility. We require motivated, self reliant individuals with a proven ability to work as part of a small team. Candidates should be individuals with a highly commercial approach who will thrive in a sales-orientated environment. Excellent written and verbal skills in English are essential (and fluency in another European language is highly desirable).

Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will be exposed to a broad variety of legal work including extensive contracting and commercial work in support of different business units responsible for the execution of Shell projects around the world.
 
You’d be expected to provide professional, timely, cost-effective and practical legal advice and support to a diverse range of divisions within Shell Projects & Technology. Each division would require you to advise the business on legal issues relating to their business activity, find legally sound and creative solutions and options for achieving business objectives within acceptable legal constraints.
You will be responsible both for your own projects and for supporting more senior lawyers on complex transactions. The position involves a significant amount of liaison with colleagues in other legal syndicates in Shell including Legal Corporate, Compliance and Intellectual Property Services.

The variety of work offered by the role will suit an energetic lawyer keen to further develop a range of legal skills and to obtain an exposure to a range of Shell's core business activities. Some degree of business travel can be expected.

Desired Skills & Experience

A strong academic background, law degree and / or legal professional qualification, with relevant experience in private practice or in a legal department of a major corporation. The successful candidate should have a strong commercial legal background and will preferably have some knowledge of construction law issues. Some exposure to the oil and gas business is desirable but is not essential. Excellent command of English language, both spoken and written along with demonstrable negotiating skills is also a pre-requisite.

Job Description

This position entails the provision of a full range of legal services to a number of operations and staff functions throughout Western and Eastern Europe, Africa and Middle East.
The activities in Europe are growing due to business volume growth as a result of substantial investments in innovation and technology and the expansion into new geographical areas and development of new products for existing and new markets.

Reporting Relationship:
Reports to the Vice President & Assistant General Counsel Europe, Middle East, Africa and Latin America. The law department consists of two senior attorneys, who are generalists, and a number of semi-senior and junior attorneys. There is one Paralegal and one administrative assistant.

Responsibilities:
Provide a high level of quality legal service in a wide range of areas including: corporate, mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, intellectual property, employment, labor relations, commercial contracts, real estate, environmental, transaction services including drafting and negotiating commercial agreements such as joint development agreements, distribution agreements, purchase agreements, supply agreements, agency agreements and information technology agreements, and together with the I/P attorney: license agreements, secrecy agreements and consulting agreements.

Litigation services including advising the clients regarding potential and pending litigation; selecting and managing outside counsel and the course of the litigation, settlement agreements.
Managing product liability risk of the Corporation and subsidiaries through developing, implementing and maintaining standard sales and purchasing conditions, handling of claims, and coordination with the Risk Management Department and insurance carriers
Constant interaction with business leadership and exposure to business objectives, goals and strategies to gain knowledge and provide business oriented legal advice.
This position calls for regular travel mainly throughout EMEA but also to the U.S.A.

Desired Skills & Experience

Candidates must possess a law degree (Post Graduate Degree is appreciated).
Minimum of 4-7 years of Corporate/Commercial experience in a well known law firm or international manufacturing or consumer products company.
Strong communication skills.
Energetic and pro-active, business oriented approach.
Fluent in English both written and spoken
