Job description

The new staff members will join the Water & Agriculture group, which is primarily concerned with education and research in agricultural water management for food security and sustainability. This includes smallholder and farmer-led irrigation and the management, and modernization of irrigation systems.
We are looking for new staff members with expertise in the field of irrigation design and modernisation. More specific expertise is welcomed in a variety of areas, including innovations in agricultural water use, institutional and financial aspects of the operation and maintenance of irrigation systems; environmental impacts of water management for agriculture; new approaches to water management for food security and sustainability; and irrigation performance assessment. The new staff members will have teaching responsibilities in his/her area of expertise and will be expected to supervise MSc and PhD students and implement research and capacity development projects.

Requirements

  • PhD degree in Irrigation Engineering, Agricultural Engineering or Civil Engineering or in a related field;
  • Advanced skills in the design, management and modernization of irrigation & drainage systems;
  • In-depth interdisciplinary understanding of social, institutional, technical and biophysical aspects of water management for agriculture;
  • Knowledge of contemporary debates on irrigation development, water for food security, sustainable intensification of agriculture and access to water for poverty alleviation;
  • Proven ability to conduct research projects and a record of peer-reviewed publications;
  • Competency in project management and potential for new project and research grant acquisition;
  • Experience and great affinity with university teaching, preferably at the post-graduate level;
  • Affinity to working in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment;
  • Excellent command of English;
  • Willingness to frequently travel and work abroad for short term assignments.

The Land and Water Management Department’s aims to add value to (human) managed land-water systems through monitoring, assessing, understanding and anticipating the impact of intervention and change. The Department cover a broad range of disciplinary knowledge, across the physical domains of water-landenvironment, the policy and management domains of linking information to action and decision-making, and the technology and society domains, looking at technological innovations in land and water that can support societal development.

Job description

Specific Requirements:
Willing to pick up – among others - already planned and/or developed courses in Year 1 (Comparative Criminal Law), Year 3 (ICC & Other Tribunals, Core Crimes), and Year 4 (Law & Ethics, Law & Practice) as well as courses on professional legal (moot court) skills, and also willing to serve as a Tutor/Mentor: advising, coaching and grading individual and small groups of students on completion of assignments, projects, papers and career planning, as well as performing coordinating tasks. The actual tasks and amount of days will depend on the candidate.

Job requirements

General Qualifications:
At least a completed master of law or equivalent, including substantive knowledge of the areas relevant for the courses mentioned below, as well as an interest in the internationalization of law and the role of economics and ethics in legal practice; interest in UN General Assembly Resolution 3/217 and 55/2; five years working experience as a professional jurist (academic, judicial, other legal professions); proven ability and/or drive to contribute to knowledge transfer and student guidance in a case and competence oriented educational setting; excellent communication abilities and writing skills.

Minimum salary: € 3177 gross per month
Maximum salary: € 4365 gross per month
Indication: Salary is based on fulltime employment.
Salary description:
Gross salary (Scale 11) is between EUR 3.177,05 and EUR 4.365,16 per month in case of a full-time appointment (plus 8% vacation allowance and 13th month). The actual salary will be based on individual qualifications, scope of responsibility and amount of days, and not necessarily at the maximum of the scale.

Maximum work hours per week: 40

Appointment will be for a one-year term initially, although the candidate will immediately be seen as potential for permanent tenure.

International Bachelor of Law Program
The Hague University of Applied Sciences (THU) – member of The Hague Academic Coalition and a designated UNESCO School – offers over forty bachelor programs, master programs and post-academic courses in a wide range of professional fields. Over 20 thousand students pursue education designed to develop their talents, to prepare them for professional careers and to share innovative knowledge with the various industries and society at large. In 2007, on the basis of Bynkershoek Institute research, and the Academy of Management, Law and Security (the department of  Dutch Law Program) (HBO-Rechten), the THU established an International Bachelor of Law Program (Program), licensed and accredited by the Dutch Government. The full-time English-language Program, offers an education entirely focused on international, European and comparative perspectives on and principles of national law.
