Job description
The
Institute of Political Science of Leiden University has 40 faculty
members, including many non-Dutch scholars, consistently receives high
peer-reviewed ratings of its teaching and research programs, and houses a
number of editorships of international refereed journals.
The Institute offers a Dutch-language Bachelor program (with two specializations in Political Science and International Relations), and three Master programs in English: a one-year Master program in Political Science, a two-year Political Science Research Master, and a two-year International Relations and Diplomacy Master. The focus of the Institute’s research program is on the design, workings and implications of political institutions (broadly defined).

Requirements
Candidates
are expected to be able to teach generalist International Relations
courses as well as specialized seminars within their own field,
undertake research, seek external research funding, and publish in
international refereed journals. Candidates are also expected to
participate in the Institute’s intellectual life and further
development. Applicants should have (or be close to obtaining) a PhD in
political science with a specialization in international relations, a
promising publication record and good teaching evaluations. Fluency in
Dutch at the time of appointment is not required. However, candidates
are expected to be able to communicate with staff and students in Dutch
within two years of appointment.
Conditions of employment
The
position is fulltime, starting in mid-late 2014. The appointment is
initially for five-years under the terms of the collective labor
agreement of Dutch Universities. Possibility for further appointment is
subject to satisfactory performance and the budgetary situation of the
Institute.

Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (Salary scale 11) € 3259, - to € 4462,- per month gross, with additional holiday and end-of-year bonuses).
