The Department of Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences (IE&IS) has several BSc and MSc programmes. Education and research in the department focus on the development and use of technology in a business and society-oriented context. Research is design and application oriented, based on fundamental scientific insights and methods. Main areas of interest are operations management, innovation management and policy and human-technology interaction.
The Technology, Innovation & Society (TIS) group of the School of Innovation Sciences is active in the BSc programme 'Sustainable Innovation', the MSc programmes 'Innovation Sciences' and 'Sustainable Energy Technology', a university-wide course on history of technology, and several university-wide electives in the areas of patents, the future of mobility, sustainable buildings and cities and health and the quality of life.
In terms of research, the TIS group specializes on knowledge economy, sustainability transitions, and history of technology (for more information on history research see the program 'Modern Societies in Transition' on ecis.ieis.tue.nl/node/20).
Tasks
The main tasks of the candidate are teaching (approx. 65%), research (approx. 35%), and management (approx. 5%). This includes:
Developing, and participating in, the courses offered in the history of technology and the innovation sciences.

PhD ultrafast 3D ultrasound imaging of the breast Radboud university medical center - — AcademicTransfer
Job description
Recently,
a grant of the Dutch Technology Foundation (STW) was awarded for the
project “3D Ultrafast Functional Ultrasound Imaging for Detection of
Tumors in Breast”. Goal of this project is to enhance the performance
Automated Breast Volume Scanning (ABVS) by ultrafast imaging, to improve
detection of tumors by acquiring functional information, and to
facilitate treatment by ultrasound guiding of the intervention. The
project is a collaboration with Siemens Ultrasound. The developed
techniques will be implemented on a commercial ABVS scanner and
evaluated in the clinic.
For this research project, we have a
vacant position for an enthusiastic PhD student (4 years). Currently,
acquisition of a full volume takes 1 minute. By ultrafast acquisition, a
full volume can be acquired in seconds. Intelligent hardware
architecture as well as data storage strategies have to be developed and
implemented for ultrafast imaging while also improving the image
quality. Furthermore, dedicated imaging sequences will be developed to
deal with breathing motion. The PhD student will work in close
collaboration with a PhD student that recently started on improved 3D
functional breast imaging.
