100 YEARS OF INVENTIONS, Made by Philips Research

On view until 26 October 2014: 100 YEARS OF INVENTIONS, Made by Philips Research, an exhibition celebrating the first centenary of Philips Research.
100 YEARS OF INVENTIONS, Made by Philips Research offers a choice selection of major innovations by this famous institute, including the vacuum tube, the X-Ray tube, the CD and innovations in the field of lighting. The exhibition also highlights the people behind the inventions, presenting personal stories of scientific curiosity, creativity and daring.
A hundred years ago, in January 1914, Gilles Holst became the first director of Philips Physics Laboratory (NatLab) in Eindhoven, marking the beginning of what would become Philips Research. The aim of this research laboratory was (and is) to develop new technologies as an independent institute, to obtain patents and to apply them in products. NatLab is behind an impressive number of ground-breaking innovations, which have either made or will make dramatic changes in  our world.
In addition to presenting innovations of the past, the exhibition also explores the latest technological achievements. Thus visitors entering the exhibition come eye to eye with an amazing luminous wall showing interactive moving patterns of light and colour that respond to their movements. The interaction between spotlights and tablet computers in the exhibition is another special test case. The spotlights send extra digital information to the visitors'  tablets. This form of intelligent light is a first in the Netherlands.
